Thank you to all the families who joined us for McNary Heights’s Thanksgiving Feast! We had a fantastic turnout of families, and our nutrition staff did an incredible job of preparing and serving almost 900 meals. HUGE thank you to our nutrition staff, as well as our maintenance crew, and Parent Teacher Club for making this event possible for our students and families. – ¡Gracias a todas las familias que nos acompañaron en la Fiesta de Acción de Gracias de McNary Heights! Advantage Dental will be at McNary Heights Elementary November 28th-30th for dental screenings. This service is FREE to all students. If you do NOT want your child to participate in the dental screening, please mark NO on the forms we have sent home and have your student return it to their teacher. If you would like your child screened and be able to participate in the services offered, if they are necessary, please mark YES and have your student return the form to their teacher. Thank you to the Umatilla Rural Fire Department for visiting Ms. Silvani’s class last week to answer a student's question about bravery. The question was, “how can some of you be so brave, yet some be scared?” Fire Chief Chris shared that it takes a lot of courage and training to be a firefighter, and we appreciate all the risks they take to keep our community safe. Our students also enjoyed the opportunity to ask even more questions and received cool firefighter helmets and snacks. – Gracias al Departamento de Bomberos Rural de Umatilla por visitar la clase de la Sra. Umatilla High School is having a Food Drive! The food drive is a competition between advisory classes. The class that brings in the most non-perishable food items between November 13th and December 1st wins an ice cream party! Umatilla High School’s Key Club is hosting a Toy Drive from November 8th to December 1st! They are collecting new or gently used toys to be given to children in need for the holiday season. Mrs. Buckallew took her students to visit the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave (LIGO) Observatory at Hanford last week! They explored the sight, learned from experts about gravitational waves, and participated in interactive science experiments. – ¡La Sra. Last Tuesday, Clara Brownell wrapped up Red Ribbon Week with a special assembly! Officer Wilson organized a fun game that allowed students to experience the effects of impaired vision and coordination while wearing special goggles, thereby raising awareness about the risks of substance abuse. Thank you, Officer Wilson, for helping with Red Ribbon Week Festivities and promoting drug safety to our students! Students who won the Door Decorating Competition and best dressed in the Red Ribbon Spirit Week were also awarded prizes during the assembly.
