BURNS 3, UMATILLA 0 — The Hilanders made quick work of the Vikings with a 25-9, 25-9, 25-2 Eastern Oregon League road win. “A rough one for us this evening,” Umatilla coach Samantha Erz said. “However, we know exactly what we need to work on. Too many errors to come back from.” Sara Wilson had two assists for the Vikings (0-10 overall, 0-4 EOL), while Dulce Serrano and Nya Rodarte each had a kill.

UMATILLA DROPS 2 EOL MATCHES — The Vikings fell to 0-6 in Eastern Oregon League play after home losses to Nyssa and Vale. Umatilla dropped a 25-6, 25-14, 25-11 match to the Bulldogs to open play Saturday morning. “Tough sets against both teams, as we were missing some key players this week,” Umatilla coach Samantha Erz said. “Against Nyssa, we came back with promos in the second set, but could not keep the stride.” Vale came away with a 25-11, 25-9, 25-12 victory over the Vikings. “Vale gave our defense a challenge,” Erz said. “Where our front row covered hits, they came with tips. We know where our focus will be when we see them again.” Umatilla (0-12 overall) will play Tuesday at McLoughlin.
Cross Country
Lily Nichols and the 2A Heppner Mustangs held their own against 6A, 4A and 3A schools at the Bridget Nelson Invite at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. Nichols finished second overall with a time of 20:42.40 to lead the Mustangs to fourth place in the teams standings. Alaina Cassidy of The Dalles won the race in a time of 20:21.60, while Emily Picard of Madras was third (21:24.40). Sandy won the team title with 57 points, while Crook County (57) was second and The Dalles third (59). Heppner was fourth with 68 points, while Umatilla was sixth (172). Also scoring for Heppner were Riley Archer (8th, 22:39.70), Brooklyn Hendricks (13th, 23:42.10), Hailey McDaniel (17th, 24:27) and Laia Puelles (41st, 29:24.70). Eden Enkey led Umatilla, placing 33rd with a time of 26:55.20. She was followed by Emme Prindle (42nd, 30:05.80), Brooke Gerard (43rd, 30:27.30), Alyssa Bow (45th, 30:53.70) and Meghan Owens (47th, 33:33.70). Riverside had two runners, Leiliana Lissman (34th, 27:15.40) and Caelyn Pullen (39th, 28:52.80). In the boys’ division, Heppner’s Jake Wilson finished 11th with a time of 19:08.70. Crook Country’s Adam Radabaugh won the race with a time of 17:48.30, while The Dalles won the team title with 30 points. Umatilla was seventh in the team standings (169), while Riverside was eighth (208). Also for Heppner, Kaden Hall was 42nd (23:08.10). Tanner Prindle led Umatilla, placing 17th with a time of 19:33.50. Also scoring for the Vikings were Cristobal Moreno (26th, 20:21.50), Atticus Tesch (35th, 21:13.30), Alexander Ortiz (55th, 26:18.90) and Liam Early (56th, 26:45.70). For Riverside, Michael Harris was the first across the finish line for the Pirates, placing 43rd with a time of 23:08.80. He was followed by Chase Lantis (45th, 23:12.40), Seth Hammond (47th, 23:22.90), Devon Wiltberger (52nd, 25:42.20) and Nikolai Rockwell (53rd, 25:4980). Irrigon’s lone runner, Ilan Felipe, was 46th (23:13.50).
