We are excited to congratulate the following MHES students for their outstanding growth in reading! The student with the most growth from fall to spring in each grade level won a bike to help them celebrate: Kinder - Gracie 1st Grade - Aylan 2nd Grade - Harper 3rd Grade - Cinthia 4th Grade - Blake 5th Grade - Lillyan The student with the most growth in the whole school was Tommy from 1st Grade! The situation is resolved. Thank you, Law Enforcement! All schools have resumed normal operations.

Due to situation downtown, CBMS and UHS are in a precautionary secure status. All students and staff are safe and there is no need for alarm. During secure status, activites inside the school are normal, but exterior doors remain locked. We will resume normal operations as soon as the situation is resolved.

The Umatilla School District mourns the loss of beloved teacher and softball coach, Jordan Bennett. Ms. Bennett passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Crisis counseling support will be in place Monday at both MHES and UHS for students and staff in need of grief services. Our love goes out to the Bennett family during this difficult time. We appreciate and cherish all the good she did for the Umatilla community. On Monday, May 29th, the Umatilla School District is closed in observance of Memorial Day. On Friday night, we had the pleasure of celebrating our Bridge Builder award recipients at the Umatilla Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizens Award Banquet. Congratulations to our Family Liaisons and PTO founders, Chuchy Sanchez and Ashlee White, and Dual Language Kinder Teacher Jessica Garcia Quezada on their well-deserved recognition! We were also excited to witness the recognition of MHES paraprofessional Carrie Holmes as Umatilla Citizen of the Year and Columbia Harvest Foods as Business of the Year. We truly appreciate you all for your commitment to our community! After School STEAM students had a DINO-mite time being paleontologists last Friday at the OMSI Dino event! Students learned about prehistoric dinosaurs, fossils, and paleontology. They even did some fossil digging and put together a dinosaur from pieces! Thank you to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) and the Umatilla Public Library for organizing this T-REXcellent event. — ¡Los estudiantes de After School STEAM tuvieron un momento DINO-mite siendo paleontólogos el viernes pasado en el evento OMSI Dino!
