Ground Breaking Ceremony at intermediate school building site

On June 11th, the Umatilla School District celebrated the groundbreaking of a new intermediate school and Career Technical Education (CTE) building. The intermediate building is set to open in Fall of 2025 with the CTE building scheduled to follow. The new facilities will offer high-quality education and support both current students and the anticipated growth in the community. “These projects, along with essential site improvements, furnishings, and equipment, represent a comprehensive plan to enhance the educational landscape of Umatilla,” said School Superintendent Heidi Sipe.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held at both building sites, featured remarks from School Superintendent Heidi Sipe, Senior Project Manager for Chervenell Construction Kyle Clark, and School Board Chair Lesly Claustro-Sanguino. Attendees included parents, future students, school staff, and community members.

The new intermediate school will accommodate students in grades four through six, featuring a full-sized gym, varsity soccer field, and space for future expansion. “This facility will not only provide our intermediate students with a modern, supportive learning environment but also serve as a hub for community activities and growth,” said Sipe.

The CTE facility will serve Umatilla High School. The current shop space at Umatilla High will be renovated into elective and classroom spaces for Clara Brownell Middle School, which will then transition to a seventh through eighth-grade building.

The project is a collaborative effort involving Alliance Management & Construction Solutions as the project manager, Design West Architects for architectural work, and Chervenell Construction Company.
