If you are a McNary Heights Elementary student who is really working on your reading skills this year, you may get to ride into summer on a new bicycle!
The Umatilla Masonic Tuscan Lodge #136 recently donated seven bicycles to the school to celebrate reading achievement. Nicole Coyle, McNary Principal, said the school will measure students’ reading fluency growth from fall 2022 to spring 2023 using the MAPS test.
The student who showed the most growth in each grade level will win a bike. “We are always encouraging our students to improve their reading skills,” said Coyle, “but this is kind of like a happy surprise at the end of the year. We are very thankful to the local lodge for their support and generosity!”
The bikes will be awarded at McNary’s end-of-the-year assembly in June.
