UMATILLA — Karver Wilkins hit a home run and drove in four runs to lead Heppner to a 17-4 victory over Umatilla at the Stanfield Tournament on Tuesday, March 25, at the Umatilla Sports Complex.

Umatilla opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Carter Griggs drove in a run with a single to right field.

The Mustangs came right back with six runs in the top of the second, starting with an RBI single by Wilkins, and Mason Orem scoring on an error on the same play. Caylan Proudfoot followed with an RBI single, and Alakae Rodriguez and Caleb George drew bases- loaded walks for a 5-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Orem gave Heppner a 6-1 lead.

Heppner scored one run in the top of the third, only to see the Vikings answer with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Brian Younger-Morris and Linkin Zamudio hit RBI singles, and Griggs scored on an error to help pull Umatilla to within 7-4.

It was all Heppner from there.

The Mustangs hung six runs on the board in the fourth, highlighted by back-to-back-to-back singles by George, Proudfoot and Rodriguez to give Heppner a 12-4 lead. A sacrifice fly by Ryan Haugen made it 13-4.

Heppner finished off the Vikings with four runs in the six, with Wilkins finishing off the scoring with a two-run home run.

Proudfoot, Andrew Lindsay, Wilkins and Jace Wilson all had two hits, while Rodriguez had three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Griggs and Carter Monahan each had two hits, while Davis Raymond hit a double.

While Heppner had 12 hits against Umatilla, Kennedy’s Henry Beyer limited the Mustangs to one hit. He struck out nine and walked one.

After two scoreless innings, the Trojans scored one run in the third, four in the fourth and five in the sixth to secure the win.

Kody Graves went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs for the Trojans, while Brody Panuke hit a double and drove in a run.

George had the lone hit for the Mustangs.

KENNEDY 6, UMATILLA 0 — The Trojans scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to escape with a win over the Vikings at the Stanfield Tournament at the Umatilla Sports Complex.

Kennedy, which held a 1-0 lead after six innings, took advantage of a tiring RJ Estrada in the seventh. Rylee Walker hit a two-run double, Gio Vaquera hit a two-run single, and Kody Graves finished things off with an RBI single to right field.

Kennedy’s Brody Panuke pitched six innings of one-hit ball, striking out 11 and walking one.

Estrada had the lone hit for the Vikings, who sent the minimum of three batters to the plate in four of the seven innings.

MAZAMA 21, UMATILLA 8 — Armeda Kirkpatrick hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to lead Mazama to a victory over Umatilla at the Seaside Tournament.

Mazama led 10-6 after the second inning, then added five in the third, two in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull away for good.

Umatilla scored three runs on bases-loaded walks in the second, and had RBI singles from Brooke Gerard, Haidyn Thompson. The sixth run came across on an error.

In the third, Jaily Rodriguez-Gonzalez hit an RBI double, and the second run was via an error.

Brooklyn Nickerson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored for Mazama, while London O’Brien went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs.
