BANKS 52, UMATILLA 50 — Max Walker hit the game-winning basket with 13 seconds left in the game en route to a home victory over the Vikings in the 3A state playoffs.

Banks (20-5) advances to the 3A quarterfinals at Marshfield High School, where it will take on top-ranked Westside Christian at 1:30 p.m. March 6.

Umatilla finished its season with a 19-7 record.

After Walker hit his shot, the Vikings got the ball, but turned it over with six seconds remaining. In the end, they simply ran out of time.

The Braves opened the game with a 23-13 lead in the first quarter, but the Vikings pulled within 30-28 at the half.

Umatilla took a 42-39 lead after three quarters, getting six points from Micheal Montez and four from Atticus Tesch.

Banks came back with a 13-8 run in the fourth quarter to take the lead and hold on for the win.

Montez led the Vikings with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Tesch also had 13 points, along with four rebounds and two steals. David Garcia added 10 points, while Mike McGee had nine points.

Walker led the Braves with 24 points, while Fisher King added 13, seven of which came from the free-throw line.
