Designing, marketing and selling are what it’s all about in Viking Productions. Students in this Electives Class at Umatilla High School are learning what it’s like to run a small business. The students design uniforms, sports fan gear, school T-shirts and more, do the actual screen printing on the items and then sell them.
“The class is basically an interactive business model,” said teacher Scott Bow. This is the fourth year the class has been offered. Bow said it’s interesting because some students really like the instant results of making the gear and some like the selling part, coming back very excited after a basketball game after making $700 to $800 selling the items.
Bow is also UHS’ Athletic Director and said having Viking Productions produce sports gear for the school has saved money, which has opened the door for the money to fund other school projects. Last year, Viking Productions sold $16,000 of merchandise.
