Last week, our Speech Language Pathologist and Speech Language Pathologist Assistant at McNary Heights Elementary School brought some seasonal fun to their speech sessions with a yummy activity!
During speech sessions, students work on building important communication skills—like speaking clearly, understanding language, and expressing their thoughts. Last week’s activity tied into those goals through a playful book: There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick by Lucille Colandro.
After reading the story out loud, students decorated sugar cookies to look like baby chicks—just like the ones from the book! Once their decorating was complete, students got to enjoy eating the cookies.
This fun tradition happens twice a year, with each activity themed to match the season. In December, students read a winter-themed story and decorated snowflake cookies. It’s a highlight for many and something students always look forward to.
We’re grateful for the thoughtful ways our speech team makes learning meaningful, fun, and memorable!
