On March 15–16, three all-girls robotics teams from Clara Brownell Middle School—7470 Mystery Bots, 15435 Femgineers, and 17366 Giraffe Guardians—competed at the Oregon FIRST Tech Challenge Championship in Hillsboro.

They were up against 45 high school teams from across the state and held their own.

Team 15435 Femgineers earned the 2nd Place Judges Award, which recognizes teams for their unique efforts and positive impact throughout the competition.

While at the competition, the students had fun connecting with other teams.

“It was a good experience to see how nice people were even though we were competing against each other,” said Lillie R. from the Femgineers. “On the field it was very serious but in the pits it wasn’t. The teams were really nice and helped us with super glue and with our batteries.”

At the event, the teams saw new design ideas and learned more ways to improve their robot. During the off season, they plan to keep working on their robot and building their skills.

All three teams worked hard, learned a lot, and represented Umatilla well. We’re proud of them!
