BURNS 54, UMATILLA 35 — The Hilanders led from start to finish to pick up a home win over the Vikings in the Eastern Oregon League opener for both teams.
Dylan Johnson scored 11 of his 19 points in the first quarter as Burns jumped out to a 32-20 lead at the half.
The Hilanders (9-2) kept the pressure in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 22-15 to secure the win.
Micheal Montez led the Vikings (11-3) with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Carter Monahan added seven points and three rebounds. Tanner Prindle had a team-high five rebounds.
Jack Wright added 13 points for Burns, while Carsen Volle had 11.
Girls Basketball
BURNS 73, UMATILLA 25 — The Vikings opened Eastern Oregon League play with a road loss to the 11th-ranked Hilanders.
Burns (6-3) got put to an early lead and never looked back. The Hilanders led 20-8 after the first quarter, and 35-12 at the half.
Sophomore Shay McCallister led the Vikings (8-6) with 11 points, while Ruby Chavez added five.
Akylah Kaino had 19 points for the Hilanders, while Amaya Ballard added 18 points, including three 3-pointers.
