UMATILLA 44, GOLDENDALE (WA) 12 — The Vikings held the Timberwolves scoreless in the third quarter en route to a home win and a 7-2 record.
Umatilla opened the game with a 10-5 lead after the first quarter, and led 21-7 at the half. The Vikings went on a 17-0 tear in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Shay McCallister led the Vikings with 12 points, while Alyiah Howard and Jordyn Escamilla each had seven.
Anna Wilder led the Timberwolves with five points.
Boys Basketball
UMATILLA 68, GOLDENDALE 48 — The Vikings used a 30-9 run in the third quarter to take control of the game for a home win over the Timberwolves.
Carter Monahan and Micheal Montez each scored 10 points for Umatilla in the third as the Vikings took a 52-32 lead.
Goldendale led 23-22 at the half, but went cold from the floor over the next two quarters and the Vikings sailed away with the win.
Monahan led the Viking (9-0) with 15 points and seven steals, while Montez added 13 points and nine assists, and Mike McGee had 10 points and five rebounds.
Grant Hatfield led Goldendale with 15 points, while Seth Wilder had 11.
Girls Wrestling
MAC-HI CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT — Hermiston won four titles and ran away with the team title in Milton-Freewater.
The Bulldogs rolled up 129 points, followed by Walla Walla (89), Umatilla (43), Pendleton (39) and Heppner (37). Mac-Hi was eighth with 14 points.
Umatilla sent two wrestlers to the tournament, and both won titles. Rylee Sanchez won the 155-pound title, pinning all three of her opponents in the round robin format.
Shanie Thomas won at 170, winning all three of her matches by fall. In the championship match, she pinned Pendleton’s Thiri Dahl in 1:28.
Also for Pendleton, Destiny Credo was second at 135, Kamryn Kauffman was third at 170, Jayda Preston was fourth at 115, and Maura McShane was fifth at 115.
For Heppner, Loren Trujillo (125) and Keeley Nairns (190) placed second, while Journey Cavan-Harris was third at 145, Emilia Cavan Harris was fourth at 145, and Harlee Cotton was fourth at 125.
Mac-Hi’s Anahy Perez placed second at 155, winning two of her three matches.
Boys Wrestling
MAC-HI CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT — Mac-Hi finished second at its own event, crowning two champions and seeing four wrestlers place second in Milton-Freewater.
Walla Walla won the team title with 138.5 points, with the Pioneers second with 104. Heppner was fourth (69), while Umatilla (19.5) was seventh.
Dallen Duncan won the 138-pound title for the Pioneers, beating teammate Tyler Hoel by major decision (32-24) in the title bout.
Masyn Lindsey captured the 165-pound title, pinning three of his four opponents, including Cameron Dodgin of Walla Walla in 2 minutes in the championship match.
Henderson Lee placed second at 126, going 2-1 in the round robin format.
Mason Schneider of Umatilla won the 126-pound title, winning all three of his matches.
Marshall Koch was second for Mac-Hi at 144 after getting pinned in 1:41 in the title bout by Creighton Clack of The Dalles.
Mac-Hi’s Nolan Noirot was second at 190, going 3-1 in the round robin format.
For Heppner, Landon McMahon won the 215-pound title, pinning Walla Walla’s David Hadley in 14 seconds in the title match.
At 150, Hayden McMahon was second for the Mustangs after Walla Walla’s Lenin De La Luz pinned him in 5:20 in the championship match.
Also for Heppner, Connor Wilson was third at 157, and Kooper Miller was fourth at 285.
