UMATILLA — Micheal Montez poured in 25 points, handed out seven assists and had four steals to lead Umatilla to a 74-23 victory over Ontario on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Columbia River Clash. The Viking improved to 4-0 on the season with the win. “We had a talk with them before the game about cleaning up our defense,” Umatilla assistant coach Jon Garrett said. “Right now, we aren’t having a problem scoring, it’s shutting other teams down. That went pretty well.” The Vikings jumped out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter, then went on a 14-3 run in the second quarter for a 40-13 lead at the half. A 24-8 scoring spree in the third period put Umatilla out front 64-21. Carter Monahan came off the bench to chip in 17 points and four steals, while Mike McGee had 11 points, five rebounds and three steals. In the first four games, we have had three or four guys in double figures,” Garrett said. “When you have 10 seniors, it works pretty well. It’s a group effort.” Ontario (1-6) was led by Diego Rodriguez’s 10 points.
