Cross Country
Heppner junior Lily Nichols turned in a time of 19 minutes, 18.1 seconds to win the Gold Rush Run in John Day by 21 seconds over Imbler’s Paiten Braseth (19:39). It’s the third race Nichols has won this fall. She has not placed lower than sixth over the course of eight races. Imbler, which had three runners in the top five, won the team title with 41 points. Burns was second with 54, followed by Heppner (74). Umatilla was sixth (151) and Riverside seventh (164). Also scoring for the Panthers were Paige Braseth (3rd, 21:04.40), London Kunz (4th, 21:08.50), Josephine Bingaman (16th, 23:21), and Eva Paulson (23:40.70). For the Mustangs, Riley Archer finished fifth (21:28.60), followed by Brooklyn Hendricks (21:46.80), Laia Puelles (32nd, 25:34.90), and Kadie Henrichs (47th, 30:03.30). Leiliana Lissman led Riverside, placing 13th with a time of 23:09.90. Also scoring for the Pirates were Caelyn Pullen (33rd, 25:40.20), Samantha Torres (57th, 37:03.90), Isabel Sanchez (58th, 37:20.10), and Valeria Rodriguez (59th, 37:24.10). Umatilla’s top runner was Eden Enkey, who crossed the finish line in 23rd place with a time of 4:29.20. Also scoring for the Vikings were Emme Prindle (36th, 26:53.30), Alyssa Bow (43rd, 27:52.60), Brooke Gerard (44th, 25:57.80), and Sarah Hill (50th, 30:52.20). Pilot Rock freshman Hailey Severe finished 22nd with a time of 24:16.70. Weston-McEwen did not field a complete team, but had strong showings by Alethea Bond (25th, 24:33.20), Brynn Brownie (30th, 24:57.50), and Miranda Martin (37th, 26:58.60). Nixyaawii, which had a team of four, was led by Ciicyle Thompson (40th, 27:48.50), followed by Rosaella Salt (42nd, 27:51.80), Ayanna Star (52nd, 32:24.90), and Gracie Wilson (53rd, 32:49). Stanfield/Echo’s Ana Ramirez placed 31st in a time of 25:02.40. In the boys’ division, Weston-McEwen sophomore Arden Shaul won the race with a time of 17:24, just 2 seconds in front of Nyssa’s Pedro Santana (17:26.20) and Riverside’s Nathan Hammond (17:26.30). Burns won the team title with 52 points, with Riverside right on the Hilanders’ heels with 58 points. Stanfield/Echo was fourth (114), with Imbler fifth (142), Umatilla sixth (146), Nixyaawii eighth (167) and Pilot Rock ninth (259). Also scoring for Riverside were Ethan Beaty (10th, 17:58.10), Eric Pullen (13th, 18:25.20), Jaime Calvillo (14th, 18:26.40), and Michael Harris (38th, 20:28.50). The TigerScots did not field a complete team, but saw Tristan Weseman place 11th in a time of 18:00.60, followed by Jose Barahona (64th, 24:51.90). Nixyaawii’s Sun Schimmel finished 12th with a time of 18:41.10 to lead the Golden Eagles. Also on the course for Nixyaawii were Noah Piercen (31st, 19:52.50), Weptas Brockie (21:49.50), Ellis Ashley (22:47), and Emery McConnell (63rd, 24:05.70). Stanfield/Echo’s top three runners ran in the junior varsity race, leaving Jeremiah Swanston to lead the group in the varsity race. Swanston finished 18th with a time of 18:40.80, followed by Andrew Thurman (20th, 18:56), Antonio Galindo (27th, 19:37), Malachi Swanston (37th, 20:33.60), and Michael Odell (41st, 20:50.40). Austin Kuiper led the Panthers (21st, 19:06.40), followed by Adam Gordon (22nd, 19:15.10), Kolt Alam (39th, 20:39.70), Ian Paulson (45th, 21:47.80), and Kaed Sheahan (47th, 21:50). For Pilot Rock, Lewis Hansen was the first across the finish line (48th, 21:54.50), followed by Landon Norton (60th, 23:30.40), Elisha  Sanchez (67th, 25:21.40), Parker Bucher (70th, 27:25.80), and Hunter Fitzpatrick (72nd, 29:06.80). Heppner’s Jake Wilson finished eighth overall with a time of 17:44.90. Also running for the Mustangs were Kaden Hall (36th, 20:31.40) and Olson Anderson (52nd, 22:10.80). Cristobal Moreno led Umatilla, placing 17th with a time of 18:39. Also scoring for the Vikings were Tanner Prindle (19th, 18:53.20), Atticus Tesch (25th, 19:33.20), Alexander Ortiz (55th, 22:53.20), and Liam Early (66th, 25:04.70). Irrigon sent one runner, lIlan Felipe, who was 33rd with a time of 20:17.20.
