MAC-HI 40, UMATILLA 14 — Sophomore Dallen Duncan scored four touchdowns, and the Pioneers beat the Vikings in an Eastern Oregon League home game. “It’s a team that finally believes in themselves,” Mac-Hi coach Vince Roff said. “We coaches have felt like they have had it in them all year. It was time for them to believe it. The last two games they have. The last two games, they have played with a lot of joy. I keep telling them it’s fun to win.” Duncan ran for three touchdowns and returned a kickoff for another. Defensively, he had an interception. Matthew Humbert rushed for one touchdown, while Judah Elliott caught a touchdown pass from Randall Montgomery. “We played Umatilla earlier this year and lost,” Roff said. “To be able to play them a second time, and this be a league game, and see the improvement they have made, it’s phenomenal. Our defense played great. To give up just two touchdowns in two games is phenomenal. It’s been exciting to say the least.” For the Vikings, Maddex Caballero scored on a 36-yard run in the third quarter, and Linkin Zamudio had a 7-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Zamudio also led Umatilla with five tackles. The Pioneers (2-3 overall, 1-0 EOL) have won two games in a row. “It’s been a while since Mac-Hi has won a league game, let alone a Homecoming game,” Roff said. “This team has a lot of fire in them. They are coming together.” Mac-Hi will play Oct. 12 at Burns. Umatilla (1-4, 0-1) will host Nyssa on Oct. 10.
