ECHO/STANFIELD 2, UMATILLA 1 — Kiki Nasario scored on a free kick from 30 feet out, and Emily Rose scored on a PK, as the Cougars held on for a Special District 5 road win over the Vikings. “There were definitely places for improvement in this game, but we had players step up,” Echo/Stanfield coach Danielle MacBride said. “There were opportunities from Peyton Rutherford, Mary Gutierrez and Sophia Mazza. It was an overall team effort.”

Volleyball 
MCLOUGHLIN 3, UMATILLA 0 — The Pioneers opened Homecoming week and had a successful Breast Cancer Awareness Game with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-17 Eastern Oregon League home win over the Vikings. Abi Perkins led Mac-Hi with eight aces, while Addy Brown had five aces and five assists. Miley Rhoads had seven kills and one ace, and Lainie Ellis had eight aces. The Pioneers (9-7 overall, 2-3 EOL) will play Thursday at Riverside. Umatilla (0-13, 0-7) will play Saturday in the Sheridan Tournament. “Our team is having a tough time with new players on the court, and positions some are unfamiliar with,” Umatilla coach Samantha Erz said. “The team is working hard to make it through these tough challenges. We had good plays today from Sara (Wilson), Zamara (Vera) and Yoselin (Macias) with blocks.”
